Does March of Dimes pay for anti-slip flooring in Ottawa?

Question

Does March of Dimes pay for anti-slip flooring in Ottawa?

Answer from Accessibility IQ

The March of Dimes Canada Home and Vehicle Modification Program does list anti-slip flooring as an eligible modification, but with a material restriction: vinyl or ceramic tiles only. Other flooring materials are not on its list.

A few other conditions apply before the program will pay. The applicant must be a permanent Ontario resident, in financial need under the program's after-tax household income limits, and have a permanent, ongoing or recurring disability that impedes mobility and substantially restricts activities of daily living. The program does not guarantee funding, and it will not repay any cost incurred before it authorizes the work. Quotes must come from a registered medical vendor, supplier or contractor, and the solutions covered are those recommended by an Occupational Therapist. If you own a condo, you will need a letter from the condo board before applying.

The Home Accessibility Tax Credit, administered by the CRA, may also be relevant here. It lets an eligible person claim up to $20,000 of eligible expenses a year for renovations of an enduring nature that allow the person to gain access to, or be mobile or functional within, the dwelling, or that reduce the risk of harm. The CRA decides whether a specific flooring project meets its conditions. Amounts checked September 2026.

The Ontario Seniors' Home Safety Tax Credit is closed; it covered only the 2021 and 2022 tax years, though some pages still advertise it.

For the Home Accessibility Tax Credit, keep every agreement, invoice and receipt that shows the contractor's full name, business address, GST/HST number where one applies, a description of the work performed, the dates, and proof of payment.
